The 5 Best Used Trucks for Cold Missouri Winters

No one likes winter, but our distaste for snow and ice doesn’t mean we can just cancel weather between December and March. Instead of voicing your complaints about how miserable the season can get in Missouri, try taking on the cold with one of these “best trucks for winter.” You won’t have to travel far to test drive these, either, as all these winter-ready pre-owned pickups are available for sale at our used truck dealership near Kansas City!

2016 Chevy Silverado 1500

Like the GMC Sierra of the same year, the ’16 Silverado is an incredibly competent and winter-ready pickup truck.

An upgraded MyLink infotainment system and USB ports are great additions to the 2016 Silverado, as is its Wi-Fi hotspot, but the real power comes from its 4WD and immense payload and towing capacity (1700- and 11000-plus pounds, respectively). Equipped with a V8, you’re looking at north of 383 lb-ft of torque and 350 horsepower, allowing you to plow your entire neighborhood if you wanted to. Tastes good, right?

2016 Ford F-150

Supreme fuel efficiency puts the ’16 F-150 ahead of most in its class—it gets up to 23 mpg on the highway—and much thanks goes to its newer aluminum body and base 3.6L V6. The beefier 5.0L V8 pushes out 385 horsepower and 387 lb-ft of torque, allowing the truck to tow up to 11,100 pounds. The new Pro Trailer Backup Assist feature is another handsome addition to the 2016 F-150; it improves driver confidence when attaching or hauling a trailer in the sleet, ice, and snow.

2015 RAM 1500

There’s a reason why the 2015 RAM 1500 received a perfect 5-star rating from Motor Trend.

The RAM 1500’s 5.7L HEMI V8 was—and, for all intents and purposes, still is—among the best in its class, offering 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. The electronic Shift-on-the-Fly BorgWarner transfer case is a revelation, offering a 2.64 low-range ratio on-demand. Maxed out 4×4 regular cab trims can tow up to 10,450 pounds, as well.

2012-2014 Toyota Tundra

Used Tundras are some of the best trucks for winter. They’re quiet and inexpensive—beefed-up models can typically be had for under $30k—with powerful available 5.7L V8s that churn out a max of 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque. We suggest grabbing a 4WD CrewMax Tundra for every-season driving, though the 4×2 Regular Cab trim is best for towing thanks to its 10,400-pound trailering capacity.

2014 GMC Sierra 2500HD Diesel

A heavy-duty diesel truck like the Sierra 2500HD makes for easy travels in the snow.

The third-generation Sierra, which was released in 2014 alongside its Silverado cousin, was packed with new additions like Bluetooth connectivity, upgraded power driver seats, USB ports, and steering wheel controls. The real fun comes from its Duramax 6.6L Turbo Diesel V8. With 765 lb-ft of torque to spend, the 2500HD has no problem tackling icy conditions. Sierra 2500 Crew 2WD Regular Cabs can also tow up to 17.800 pounds with an equipped fifth-wheel hitch.

Used 2014 GMC Sierra HD models go fast, so be sure and get the process going if you find one at our Blue Springs used dealership.
