The great thing about St. Patrick’s Day is you don’t have to be Irish to join in on the fun! (Though green attire is expected.) To help you get into the celebratory spirit, here are some of the best Kansas City events for Saint Paddy’s Day. Just be sure you’ve got a designated driver at the ready.
When: Sunday, March 17 (11 a.m.)
Where: The Kansas City St. Patrick’s Day Parade begins at Linwood and Broadway, and marches south on Broadway to 43rd Street.
What’s Happening: Grand Marshall Eric Stonestreet, a star of Modern Family, will lead the festive, nationally recognized Saint Patty’s Day parade. Outdoor beer gardens and sidewalk cafes will be set up along and near the parade route and will feature food, green and non-green drinks, and live Irish-themed entertainment and music.
When: Saturday, March 16 (10 a.m.)
Where: Runners will start at 4050 Pennsylvania Avenue and end at 4116 Pennsylvania Ave in Kansas City, MO.
Cost: $32+ for adults and $12+ for youngsters. (Register here to join the sea of green piped on by bagpipes.)
What’s happening: This annual St Patrick’s Day race in KC is actually two events: one for adults and one for Little Leprechauns. The adults will race four miles through Westport, and the kids will race two blocks after the adults finish. Many local establishments will serve post-race breakfasts. Green shirts are included with the registration fee.
When: March 16 – 17 (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.)
Where: Kansas City Zoo, 6800 Zoo Drive, Kansas City (just minutes from downtown)
Cost: $16 for adults and $13 for children ages 3-11.
What’s Happening: On Saturday, March 16, the O’Riada-Manning Academy of Irish Dance will perform at 10:30 am. On Sunday, see various zoo animals enjoy festive enrichment activities; goats, llamas, and many more animals will parade through the zoo. Leprechauns will be leaping around both days for photo ops.
When: March 15 – 16

What’s Happening: The fun begins with a Charity Cook-Off on Friday, March 15, across from Maaken Park in the Recreation Center parking lot, with the theme “Rock the Blarney.” This event is not open to the general public, but if you know someone who knows someone in the charity world, it’s worth a phone call. (Or just walk around the park for some delicious aromas.)
The Festival also includes carnival rides and activities, plus a free children’s area that’s filled with family activities including a barrel train, pony rides, and petting zoo. This area closes at 3 p.m. A parade will begin on March 16th around 11 a.m.
When: Sunday, March 10 (2 p.m.)
Where: Martin City, MO. Parade departs from the parking lot of State Line Point Shopping Center at Washington Street and 135th Street and will proceed east across 135th Street to Holmes Road.
What’s Happening: More than 60 entries, including floats, car clubs, dance troops, schools, businesses, dignitaries, and animal protection groups will kick off the Irish week of fun with this spirited parade.
Where: 3300 Pennsylvania, Kansas City, MO (just a block away from Kansas City’s largest St. Patrick’s Day parade)
What’s Happening: The oldest Irish-owned business in North America offers all the St. Patrick’s Day gear you can imagine. Even better, they serve a traditional Irish breakfast and a lunch of traditional Irish foods and craft beers.
Brown’s is still compiling their St. Paddy’s Day events, so visit their website to see what delights they have up their green sleeves for the big day. Last year they had a large heated tent with live music, Irish dancers, bagpipes. and raffles.

What’s Happening: St. Paddy’s Day turns Kansas City into Party City for fun-loving adults. Most bars and restaurants will be stocked and decked out for the day. Visitkc lists some classic hotspots for Saint Patrick’s Day, including Kelly’s Westport Inn, The Dubliner, and McFadden’s Sports Saloon.
